Obituary

James M. Mershon, 86, of Newtown, PA died on November 4, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. Jim was born in Penns Manor, PA, and lived in Yardley, before settling in Newtown for the past 52 years.

A graduate of Fallsington High School, Class of 1947, Jim started James M. Mershon Builder in 1952, and grew it into a successful business building custom homes and commercial properties in the area until passing the business on to his three sons and retiring in 1989. He was an avid bowler and Philadelphia Phillies fan. He enjoyed watching the birds and the deer on his property in Newtown Township. Jim also enjoyed traveling, music, and most of all spending time with his family. He was an active member of the Newtown United Methodist church for 52 years.

Jim was the son of the late George, Sr. and Margaret Greenlee Mershon and the loving husband of 66 years to Doris Baker Mershon. He was the devoted father to Peggy Genthner and her husband Tim of New Hope, Karen Black and her husband Scott of Newtown, Jim Mershon, Jr and his wife Helene of Newtown, David Mershon and his wife Kathy of Newtown and Tom Mershon and his wife Jenn of Doylestown. He was the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was the youngest of nine children and is survived by 4 sisters in law, Shirley Mershon, Marie Arch, Lois Kershaw and Janet Nielsen and numerous nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jim's Life Celebration on Wednesday, November 9 from 6 to 8 PM at the Swartz-Givnish Funeral Home, 323 Washington Ave, Newtown and on Thursday, November 10 from 10 to 11 AM at the Newtown United Methodist Church 35 Liberty Street, Newtown. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM and interment will immediately follow in Newtown Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Jim's name may be made to the Newtown United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, at the above address.
