Obituary for Jane Elizabeth Kengeter, BA

January 24, 2018

Jane Elizabeth Kengeter, BA, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a true humanitarian, gardener, and shepherdess, died on January 24, 2018, at the Meadow Lakes Community, at the age of 95. Jane was born in Newark, New Jersey, daughter of Timothy and Elsie Hoops. Jane received her BA in Latin from Wheaton College. She proudly and selflessly served her community in many significant ways: she was an Elder and the President of the Board of Trustees of the Tom's River Presbyterian Church; a leader in both the Brownies and Indian Girl Guides; the Co-Chair of the regional NJ Christian Women's Club; a Twigs volunteer at the Tom's River Community Hospital for decades; actively participated in the Questers Antique Club PA and the Ocean City Antiques Club; and actively involved in the Rolls Royce Motor Club and the North Shore Antique Automobile Club. Her interests were multi-faceted, including actively supporting many international missions, sewing, being a New York Times puzzle enthusiast, and an avid gardener, especially tending her asparagus beds. She was a keen advocate of children's education, and actively supported her family and grandchildren pursuing higher education. She spent many years with her husband in Frenchtown, N.J. with family and friends, including specially "themed" holiday celebrations. At Meadow Lakes, she loved being an "organizer" for building parties and coffees, and we honor all the staff and friends of the Meadow Lakes Community who nurtured and cared for her. She is survived by her loving family members: daughter Susan and son-in-law Dr. James Wells; son Rev. Steven Kengeter and his partner, Nancy Holstein; son Peter Kengeter and his life partner, Dr. Howard Fradkin; granddaughter Elizabeth Kengeter and grand-son-in-law Jason, and great grandchildren Marian and Benjamin; grandson Andrew Kengeter and grand-daughter-in-law Rachel Michel Kengeter and great-grandson Owen; her sister Barbara; and Shanti Kengeter and her husband Frank Walker. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband John, her brothers Walter and Bob, and Sister in Law Lois.

Family and friends are invited to Jane's Memorial Service, 2pm, Sunday, January 28th at Trinity Episcopal Church, 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury, PA 18963. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
