Obituary

John "Hoppy" Hebden Hopkinson, III, M.D., 85, died Friday, August 30, 2019 at his home in Abington, PA.

Born August 3, 1934 in Salem, MA to John Hebden Hopkinson, Jr. and Flora Hopkinson (nee Conte). Hoppy was the oldest of the four siblings – Brenda (Hopkinson) Wilde, Peter Hopkinson, and Bonnie Hopkinson. He graduated from Syracuse University in 1956 and went on to earn his medical degree from Temple University in 1960. Hoppy remained active in his Syracuse University fraternity chapter Alpha Chi Rho until his death.

Dr. Hopkinson served as a Captain in the United States Air Force. After serving his country, Dr. Hopkinson went on to spend his entire medical career at Abington Memorial Hospital. For over 40 years, he provided patient centered OB/GYN care to thousands in his community and his practice delivered over 10,000 babies.

Hoppy was an avid golfer and tennis player. He enjoyed watching all sports, particularly ice hockey and football for which he was a huge fan of both the Philadelphia Flyers and Eagles. As a big band enthusiast, Hoppy regularly attended local big band concerts with friends and family. He was a huge fan of the Diva Jazz Band!

Hoppy was a devoted family man and is survived by the mother of his children, Krystyna Zdzieborski Hopkinson; his children, Krystyna (Peter) Newsham, Brett (Carla) Hopkinson, Jacquelyn (Blair) Weir and John F. Hopkinson; his grandchildren Lily Grace, Charlotte Rose, Ace Montgomery; and mother-in-law Peggy Zdzieborski. He proceeded his daughter Elizabeth G. Hopkinson.

Relatives and friends are invited to share in Hoppy's Life Celebration, Friday, September 6, 2019 from 6 – 8 PM. At Craft/Givnish of Abington,1801 Old York Rd. (at Old Welsh) and Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Craft/Givnish starting at 9:00 AM followed by the funeral services at 11 AM. Interment, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
