John Joseph McPhelim of Audubon, Pennsylvania passed away on October 30, 2017 at the age of 89. John was a loving son, husband, son-in-law, father, father-in-law, grandfather, uncle and loving friend.

John was born to Patrick and Mary (Griffin) in Brooklyn, New York on March 13, 1928. He turned down a minor league baseball contract with the Chicago Cubs and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. He was in the First Marine Division serving in the Asiatic Pacific. He was selected to train US Army officials as part of a specialized TTU (Troop Training Unit). After his return home, he began a long and successful 39 year career with Mobil Oil Corporation based in Scarsdale, New York. That position would bring him to Valley Forge, Pennsylvania in 1983 where he lived the remainder of his life.

John was an avid sports fan rooting for his favorite team, Notre Dame. While he supported the Phillies and the Eagles all the way, he was a diehard New York Giants fan. He enjoyed family vacations to the Catskill Mountains of New York and Cape Cod, Massachusetts.

John enjoyed annual religious retreats with the Men of Malvern to St. Joseph's in the Hills and spending time with family and friends. He loved the History Channel and would tell wonderful stories to family and friends of his lifelong experiences.

John is survived by his wife Joan (Pointer) of 53 years, his daughter Patricia (Chiarlanza), son-in-law Louis and grandson James and daughter Barbara (DeGeorge), son-in-law Angelo and grandson Michael, and two nieces.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the United States Marine Corps Toys for Tots Foundation and/or the Saint Teresa of Avila Outreach Ministry.
