Loving Brother, Uncle,

Obituary

John grew up in the Olney section of Philadelphia and attended St. Helena's grade school, Cardinal Dougherty High School, class of '76 and Michigan State University, class of '81 where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Packaging.

John was a long time employee of Ikea North American as a Network Systems Engineer. While employed with the company John traveled to Sweden often. He made many longstanding friends and colleagues here in the U.S. and abroad. He was affiliated with many organizations including Digital Equipment Computer Users Society (DECUS) and Main Line Computer Users Group.

John was an avid reader, his book collections are immense. He also enjoyed deep sea fishing, traveling, anything computer related, Sci-Fi, board games and card games. He especially enjoyed his vacation home at Whippoorwill Campground.

John also has a love of family. He enjoyed building computers with his nephew John. He laughed at the antics of his nieces Erin and Melissa and his nephews Sean, Chris and Andrew when they were all together at the campground. His two year old great-niece Laura Grace knew where Uncle Johnny sat at our dining table for meals. He had fun testing out his new Star Wars light sabers with Brian and John and enjoyed spending time with Joseph and Anna learning about their lives. He helped to raise his two step-sons Dan and Derek. His step-son Dan was living with him at the time of his passing. He also loved his brothers Kevin and Danny. He shared in their lives and families. The good times and not so good times. Their bond has never broken. Kevin and Danny recently found a short story that John wrote among the papers in his office. It was a true story of three young brothers at the Jersey Shore during a hurricane. Two of the brothers snuck off to the beach early in the morning to watch the waves crash. The story goes on to tell how they were found by their dad and brought back home. We are sad that John has left this life, but joyful in the knowledge that he has reunited with his beloved mom and dad.
Family & friends are invited to John's Life Celebration Sunday August 1st after 11AM and to participate in His Service of Christian Burial at 1PM at John F. Givnish of Academy Rd. 10975 Academy Rd. Inurnment will be private.
