John W. "Jack" Bretcher, 90, of Brigantine went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Kathryn on Saturday October 13, 2018. Jack was born in Philadelphia PA to the late John and Laura Bretcher. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. Jack graduated from Northeast High School in Philadelphia. He received a full athletic scholarship in diving and gymnastics to attend Temple University where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree. Jack was an avid fisherman. He fished all over the world or he could be seen fishing on the surf or on his boat Top Cat.

Jack was a teacher. He taught in the Pleasantville and Brigantine School Districts. He was also the former owner of the Jolly Roger Marina in Brigantine. Jack also was employed by Penn Reels in Philadelphia.

Jack was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved spending time in Florida and time with his pet Labrador Retrievers.

He was formerly a member of the Brigantine Lions Club and he was Past Commodore of the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

Jack was the beloved husband of the late Kathryn (nee Stickel). He is survived by his daughter Linda Simpson (Andy), John "Jack" Bretcher Jr. (Jill) and Patricia Brestle (Mark). He is also survived by his grandchildren Andrew Simpson, Meggan Advena, Katie Simpson, Richard and Chelsea Bretcher and John and Kylie Magee.
