Jose Javier Rodriguez, Sr. retired Law Enforcement Officer, passed away Thursday, July 4,2019 at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital. Born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico 69 years ago, he was the son of Casildo Rodriguez and Antolina Marrero. As a young boy his family moved to St. Peter's Parish in North Philadelphia. He attended St. Peter the Apostle Elementary School and then graduated in 1969 from Roman Catholic High School. That same year Jose entered the United States Air Force where he served until March 1973.

After the Air Force he was a Correctional Officer at Holmesburg Prison. From there he went to work with the Philadelphia Sheriff's Department. His career moved on to the Philadelphia Police Department Highway Patrol which he retired from after 18 years of service. Next Jose went to work as a US Marshall and served over 21 years before retiring again. He passionately served the community as a member of the Spanish American Police Association SAPA/Spanish American Law Enforcement Association SALEA.

He had many passions, but top among them would be his motorcycle. He was also known as a great cook as well as a great singer. Jose was known to frequent casino's and was a master of the slot machine. He displayed a passion and love for automobiles. He loved all sorts of antique cars and racing cars. Being a "real character", he was known to be quite the jokester as well as a "super-man" father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy Colon Rodriguez, his children; Cassandra Rodriguez (Phila. P/O Retired), Adelamarie Rodriguez, Jose Javier Rodriguez, Jr. and Cynthia Vasquez, a brother, Edwin Rodriguez, step-children; Yashyra Gonzalez and Joan Delia, 22 grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and best friend, Mr. Gabe. He is also survived by his former wife, Nereida Rodriguez, who is the mother of his first three children.

Family, friends and Law Enforcement Officers are invited to Jose's Life Celebration Saturday July 13, 2019 after 12:30pm from John F. Givnish of Academy Road, 10975 Academy Road, Phila. PA, 19154. His Christian Burial Service will be at 2:30pm Saturday with interment private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jose's name preferred to Fraternal Order of Police Survivors Fund c/o Lodge #5, 11630 Caroline Road, Phila., PA. 19154.
