Obituary for Joseph Barno

September 26, 1928 - June 13, 2021
Levittown, Pennsylvania | Age 92

Joe passed away peacefully at home on Sunday June 13th. He was a long-time resident of the Whitewood section of Levittown. He was born in Nesquehoning, PA. At the young age of 17 he enlist┬Čed into the Navy to serve in WWII. Shortly after he was discharged from the Navy he enlisted into the Marine Corps and served during the Korean War, he was a proud Marine Sargent, especially proud of being a veteran of the battle at Chosin Reservoir, ONE OF THE CHOSIN FEW. He earned many medals but was most proud of his 6 Battle Stars and his Purple Heart. He would always correct you if you called him a hero. He would tell you that the heroes are the men that died over there. He was a survivor. After the service he married his wife Mary and they moved to Levittown to start a family and new job at U.S. Steel. He liked to hunt, fish, and do woodworking along with taking care of his chickens. After retirement he liked to go to the park and the river in Bristol where he would talk to everyone he encountered, He was a life member of the D.A.V., American Legion and Billington VFW where he was Captain of the Honor Guard for many years. He was predeceased by his wife Mary, his parents Steven and Mary, his brothers Steven, Andy and Danny, his infant twin Margret and his sisters Helen, Irene and Margaret and girlfriend Sharon Zorger. He is survived by his daughters JoAnn Carr (Dave), Annette Ruvo (Frank) and Margie Santacroce (Mark), and his son Joe Barno (Ro), his grandchildren David Carr, Sheila Bayer, Joel & Dane Ruvo, Alyssa & Jillian Santacroce, great grandchildren Tyler (Keira), Connor, Emily Bayer and Bentley Stellato, great great grandson Kolton and one on the way and his sister Elizabeth Walls The family would like to thank the care givers that took care of Joe, you girls were truly a gift from God, your loving care brought much joy to his life and for that you have our everlasting gratitude. We especially want to thank Heather Leo, he loved you like a daughter, the amount of love and compassion you showed him while taking care of him was simply amaz┬Čing.
