Obituary for Joseph James Jordan

November 1, 1933 - June 7, 2016
Pennsylvania | Age 82

Joseph James Jordan, 82, died at his home on June 7,2016. He was born November 1, 1933 in Philadelphia PA, a son of the late James and Rose Jordan. Through hard work (and a little luck of the Irish), Joe climbed to the rank of Business Agent with the International Association Of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers Local 161, holding court after hours at the Gardendale Club, the Stop Inn and Busch's. After Joe retired he landed in "always sunny" Myrtle Beach, as he loved reminding his family up North. While he was a proud fan of the Phillies, Eagles and Notre Dame football, nothing made him more proud than his 8 children, 23 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. Joe loved telling stories, hosting friends old and new, and spending time in Sea Isle City, where he met his greatest love, his bride of over 60 years, Nancy (Brophy) Jordan.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Nancy, two brothers, Jim (Chisel) and Bobby (Duker), twin sisters, Jean (Sister Rose Michael SSJ) and Joan, sons-in-law James B. McFadden and Stephen G. McCloskey and grandson Stephen J. McCloskey. Survivors include three sons, Joseph (Karen), Michael (Ann), and Thomas; five daughters, Nancy McFadden, Kathleen McCloskey, Lisa Murray (Dennis), Rose DiPentino (Gerard) and Brigitte Dent (Marc). Words cannot express our heartfelt gratitude to Joe and Nancy's longtime caregivers and companions Denise Tingling and Angela Brunson.

Relatives and friends are invited to a Life Celebration visitation on Monday, June 20, 2016 from 9-11 A.M. at Saint Joseph's Church 4308 Landis Avenue, Sea Isle City New Jersey, followed by a Memorial Mass celebrating the lives of both Joseph and Nancy Jordan at 11A.M. Interment is private.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joseph Jordan may be made to the Wills Eye Foundation-Macular Degeneration Fund 840 Walnut Street, Philadelphia PA 19107. Family service by Craft/Givnish of Abington.
