Obituary

Joseph Plotka Sheldon, 93, of Ventnor City, N.J. passed away on Saturday August 20, 2016, peacefully, surrounded by his family. Joseph was born on October 3, 1922, to the late Maxwell and Reba (Youtie) Plotka.

He was married 74 wonderful years on Christmas day and is predeceased by his wife and soulmate Sylvia Sheldon. He is also predeceased by his son Larry Sheldon and siblings Dorothy, Lenore, Arthur, Moe, and Herbert. Joseph is survived by his daughter Marcia, (Konstantinos) Tzioutziouklaris, daughter-in-law Jane Sheldon, grandchildren, Robert (Veronika) Sheldon, Clifford (Tia) Sheldon, Jennifer (Michael) Panchesine, Athina and Athanasia Tzioutziouklaris. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Joseph, Emily, Lauren, Macy and Karina Sheldon. Joseph is also survived by his very best friend Harry Southard who was always there for him.

After graduating ACHS, he served in the United States Air Force during WWII. After coming home, he became a drummer who started his own band called the Starlighters- in which Sylvia also played the piano. Joseph studied and became a certified Pedorthist. In 1957, he opened Sheldon's Foot Comfort Shop, in Atlantic City, which became the family business and a staple of the community for over 47 years. Joseph was also a member of the Keystone-Belcher Masonic Lodge, the Shriners, the Jewish War Veterans, Exchange Club, Singing City, Judean Choir and the Republican Club. He was very well known for his great sense of humor, loved to tell jokes, but more importantly knew how to live life to the fullest. He highly enjoyed entertaining and having dinner parties while sipping his favorite drink- 100 proof Old Grandad. Joseph loved vacationing, and had many outdoor hobbies such as boating, fishing, skiing, gardening, and riding his motorcycles. He also loved celebrating ALL holidays such as Halloween and Saint Patrick's Day but without a doubt Christmas Day was his favorite. He knew how to bring laughter and cheer to all those who were near- especially his family. He always said how proud he was to be an American and that the first 100 years were the hardest.

We would like to thank Meadow View Nursing Home, Dr. Jeffery Gong and Holy Redeemer for their compassion and wonderful care.
