Obituary for Joyce Elizabeth Senss

February 26, 1946 - October 18, 2019
Pennsylvania | Age 73

Born February 26th, 1946, Joyce Elizabeth Senss, (Nana, Mom, Honey-Bunny) earned her wings on Friday, October 18, 2019. She is survived by her beloved husband, Klaus, her brother, John (Jack), her children, Joseph and Marian and the joys of her life – her grandchildren, Tara and Enrico.

After her marriage to William Schmidt (Bud) she traveled the east coast following his job while raising her children- but she never lost her love for her home town. Finally settling back in her home city, she started working at the Philadelphia Water Department where, over her 20-plus year career, she made many life-long friends and was recognized by 2 mayors for her outstanding dedication and attention to detail. During her career, she acted as judge for 2 city gardening contests, and ran the Water Department's exhibits at the Philadelphia Flower show.

Pursuing her passion for plants and nature, Joyce graduated from Penn State's Master Gardener's program where she earned 2 Meritorious awards and had perfect attendance during the four-year program.

After her marriage to her beloved Klaus, Joyce and he retired to Morrisville where they quickly became active in the community and God's Love Lutheran Church in Yardley, PA. Joyce continued to be a faithful servant until her passing and will always be remembered for her role in the many ministries of the church including the pet ministry, the altar guild, and the Knit and Crochet Club where she helped to warm the homeless with scarves, make hats for cancer patients, make blanket for newborns and more.

Among her proudest accomplishments were having her home garden designated as a Monarch Waystation (# 02703) from, an Audubon At Home Bird Habitat, and a Certified Wildlife Habitat from National Wildlife Federation. She always had muddy knees!
She earned certificates of appreciation from many organizations and charities that she supported. The Sierra Club, the Pearl S. Buck Historic Home Reopening & Garden Festival, the Red Cross and God's Love Park of Faith among others. Her heart was always open to all God's children and she accepted everyone.

An informal gathering and time of sharing will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26th at:
God's Love Lutheran Church
791 Newtown Yardley Rd.
Newtown, PA 18940

Beginning at 12 noon followed by a memorial service and light treats afterward. Please bring your funniest and warmest stories to share of how Joyce made your life a little better. She wants us to celebrate her life with tears of laughter and happiness in our hearts. Feel free to dress as you like – as she said – this is a celebration, not a funeral.

Donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her memory. Some of her favorites were Habitat for Humanity, the Association for the Blind, the ALS Hope Foundation and St. Christopher's.
