Obituary for Kenneth B. McGuckin

March 22, 2018
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Kenneth B. McGuckin, age 56, of Philadelphia passed away suddenly on March 22, 2018. Ken is the beloved husband of Jean (nee Laigaie), loving father of Kelly Holroyd (Stephen) and Monique Roane, dear son of Bernard and Johanna McGuckin, son-in-law of Regina Laigaie , brother of Debra Eberly (Steven), and uncle of Jennifer and Samantha.

Born and raised in Fishtown, Kenney attended St. Laurentius Grade School and then North Catholic HS. He was always active and loved sports. He played football for North with fond memories of winning the game against rival Frankford HS on Thanksgiving Day. He was a big fan of the Philadelphia Flyers, attending the big parade on Broad Street in the 70's to eventually having season tickets more recently. He spent summers at the Jersey Shore swimming and water skiing.

Ken was passionate about becoming a police officer ever since he was young boy. He LOVED the uniform, the discipline, and the brotherhood. His career began as an officer in the 22nd District. Over the years he served in other Districts in the city, in the Mounted Unit, the Highway Patrol, the Drill Team, promoted to Sergeant, and most recently was in the Marine Unit.

Ken loved his Harley, riding on winding roads in PA and taking longer trips to Florida with other friends. He became a motorcycle instructor to share his passion to ride. He enjoyed his cigars and sharing some Tullamore D.E.W. with friends.
