Obituary

Laura Parry Cadwallader Clappison, age 98, passed away on January 30 at Pennswood Village, Newtown, PA. Laura was born and raised at Fairfield Terrace in Yardley. She attended George School, then went to Swarthmore College. While there, she met Charlie (deceased 12 years) and they married in 1943. Laura and Charlie raised four daughters: Lolly, Georgette, Libby and Debbie. While raising their family, Laura was active in Girl Scouts, PTA and served on the George School Parents Council. She volunteered at Chandler Hall when it was first established and delivered meals for Woodside Meals on Wheels since its inception. She went on to be the Volunteer Coordinator, volunteering a total of 35 years. Laura served on many boards: Friends Home, Jeanes Hospital, Chandler Hall Caregivers and Pennswood Village. She was an active member of Yardley Friends Meeting serving as Treasurer for 10 years and representative on the Bucks County Quarterly Meeting.

After their children left home, Laura and Charlie built a home on Jericho Mountain in Upper Makefield where they spent 17 happy years living in the woods and watching wildlife. In 1998, they retired to Pennswood Village to lead active lives there.

Laura played tennis and piano, gardened, sewed many of her young girls' clothes, loved wildlife and played bridge. She loved to cook and had a reputation for her sticky buns which in later years she sold at the Pennswood gift shop...get there early or the buns were gone!

Laura was a kind, generous and beloved mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She had a wonderful sense of humor that served her well all through her life to the very end.

She is survived by four daughters: Laura Yates of Yardley, PA; Georgette MacArthur and husband Don of Fort Mill, S.C.; Elizabeth Harville and husband Allan of Vienna, Maine; and Deborah Yankoski, (husband Mark, deceased) of Lansdale, PA. She is grandmother to four grandchildren: David Yates (deceased), Ryan MacArthur and wife Julie of Malvern, PA; Stacie MacArthur of Mesa, AZ; Jennifer Valliere and husband Michael of Furlong, PA; and great grandmother to three great grandchildren: Jake and Ella MacArthur of Malvern, PA; Juliet Valliere of Furlong, PA.
