Obituary

Lester E. Bowers, "Les", died Friday November 24, 2017 after a long courageous struggle with Leukemia and other health issues. Since his diagnosis in 1996, he persevered through two trials at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston Texas but led a vibrant life while dealing with the disease. Les was born 80 years ago to Samuel Lester Bowers and the former Helen Naugle in Carlisle, PA. Preceded in death by a brother, Terry Bowers, Les is survived by his wife of 55 years, Suzanne, his children; Bradley C. Bowers (Michelle), of Enola, PA., and Pamela B. D'Arcy (Kevin), of Doylestown, PA., his siblings; John, Barbara, Nancy, and Duane Bowers, and his cherished grandchildren; Katherine and Spencer Bowers, Trevor and Connor D'Arcy.

Les graduated from Carlisle High School class of '55. One of his passions was photography and he photographed many of the high school football games. After high school, Les attended Penn State University where he met the love of his life, Sue, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1962. Although he moved on in life, part of Les' heart always remained at "Dear Old State". In 1962 the former Suzanne Schmidt married Lester in Cranford, NJ. They eventually settled in Warminster where they raised their family.

Les was in the Navy ROTC and in 1962 he served at the Naval Reserve in Willow Grove. He preformed technical tasks on helicopters for eight years. In 1970 he was honorably discharged from the Navy. Les had many jobs during his career. He sold police radios for Motorola in Glenside in 1964 and was later a partner with Parking Products, Inc. in Willow Grove. From 1978 to the present Les has been an agent with Equitable Life Insurance in Philadelphia where he attained his CLU (Chartered Life Underwriter) as well as his ChFC (Chartered Financial Consultant). Les was still active in his insurance career and recently earned continuing education credits to keep his insurance license active.

Les loved spending time with his family and traveling extensively with Sue. He was a proud member of the Warminster Rotary for more than 35 years and was an avid reader of the Intelligencer. Les loved to dine out and enjoyed many meals with family and friends. He was extremely social and as recently as last week met his friends for breakfast and lunch. Les also loved anything to do with cars, working in his garden and attending the theater.
