Mae Ohman, 91, formerly of Somers Point died after a brief illness on Friday June 13, 2014. She was born in 1923 in Pine Level, Alabama.
She was the youngest child of Ray and Alice Guice. Although born and raised on a family country estate, she spent her late teen years in Montgomery, Alabama. There, during World War II, she met Richard Ohman, an Air Force Pilot Cadet from Boston but stationed at Maxwell Air Force Base. Upon marrying Richard, she took her southern charm and grace and eventually settled in the northeast. Trained in computer programming, she worked at Harvard University and later at the Federal Aviation Agency at NAFEC in Atlantic County, New Jersey. When she retired, she traveled the world and generously devoted her time to a number of local charities including: the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, the Ruth Neuman Shapiro Cancer Foundation and the Children's Seashore Auxiliary. Also dear to her heart was Seaview Baptist Church where at the time of her death, she was the longest serving member of the church. Through her charitable work and church involvement, she had many friends who remained at her side until the end. She is survived by her loving children: Deborah Zimet of Boca Raton, Florida and Richard Ohman of Costa Rica; by her beloved grandchildren: Michael Ohman, April Ohman and Ashley Ohman Kriss; by her daughter in law, Kathleen Ohman; by her nephew, Edmund Landau; and her good friend, Joanne Linus.
