Obituary

Sister Margaret Turner, GNSH, (Sister St. George) 89, died March 6, 1017 at St. Joseph's Manor in the 71st year of her religious life.

Her ministry spanned fifty six years in the field of health related care in Alaska, Plattsburg, Ogdensburg and Buffalo, NY; Philadelphia and Yardley, PA. After earning her nursing degree from the Champlain Valley School of Nursing, she served in a variety of health care settings including the GNSH Motherhouse Infirmary where she cared for Sisters there for nine years. She was a Parish Visitor in St. Elizabeth Parish, Philadelphia, PA for a year. For more than 21 years she served residents in Kodiak, Alaska at the hospital and later at the Kodiak Senior Center. In 1991health issues necessitated her to return to the Motherhouse in Yardley. For the next ten years she served there as driver, telephone operator and receptionist. In 2001 failing health necessitated her retirement, which included a ministry of prayer and evening receptionist for an additional thirteen years. As her vision and cardiac problems increased, in 2015 she moved to St. Joseph Manor, Meadowbrook, PA for needed nursing care. Born February 4, 1928 in Gouverneur, NY she grew up in Northern New York and entered the Grey Nuns of the Sacred Heart in 1946. She received an RN degree from Champlain Valley Hospital School of Nursing, Plattsburg, NY.

In addition to her religious congregation she is survived by her sister, Diane L Ray and several cousins. Her brother, Emmett K Turner, predeceased her.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:30 pm on Saturday March 11 at the Holy Redeemer Sisters Chapel, 521 Moredon Road, Huntingdon Valley, PA 19006.
