Obituary

Martha Carter (nee Martha Wentworth Haupt) passed away peacefully at her home of fifty years in Falls Township on Saturday, April 17, 2021; she was 92. Born in 1928, in Highland Park, IL, to the late Josephine (nee Wentworth) and Caspar Wistar Haupt, Martha attended Randolph Macon Woman's College (now Randolph College) graduating with a bachelor's degree in chemistry.
She joined the Gulf Oil Technology Lab in 1950; where she met her husband, the late Harold Vaughn Carter. Martha and Harold ran Process Analyzers, Inc. for 25 years.
As a longtime member of the League of Voters, Martha helped many high school students and others to register to vote. Martha's relatives worked alongside the leaders of the Women's Suffrage movement. The Women's Suffrage bell, a replica of the Liberty Bell, was commissioned in 1915 by her great aunt, Katharine Wentworth Ruschenberger; a suffragist. In the 1990's, Martha was involved in the restoration of the bell and ensuring its place in the chamber of the National Patriots Bell Tower at the Washington Memorial Chapel in Valley Forge National Park, PA.
Growing up near Lake Michigan, she had water in her DNA and in the early 1990's joined the Sheraton Health Club. She enjoyed the warm pool and the many friends she made.
A favorite pastime watching sports, which included attending sporting events her grandchildren were involved in and following the Philadelphia teams.

Preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 60 yrs, Harold Vaughn Carter and her brothers, Caspar and Edward. Martha is survived by her children; Randall (Patricia), Donald (Susan) and Karl ((late) James Cooper Robb); her 6 grandchildren Robert (Chiara), Teresa Caputo (James), David (Kristen), Andrew (Samantha), Jeffrey, and Stephanie; and her 6 great-grandchildren Timmy, Wes, Jack, Molly, Max, and Alan.
