Obituary

Mary Irene Adalist passed away on April 15, 2017 at St. Joseph's Manor in Huntington Valley. She was 93 years old.

Irene was born in Blackburn, Lancashire, England on June 6, 1923. She was the only child of Mary Ann Ditchfield and John Riley, and grew up surrounded by cousins, aunts and uncles. Irene started dancing at the age of four and was an accomplished ballet student. She worked at the Peel Hotel Pub, where her father was the proprietor, when she fell in love with John Adalist, an American soldier. They were married on December 13, 1945.

Shortly thereafter she crossed the Atlantic on the EB Alexander and settled in Butler, NJ. where she made a home with her husband, raised her daughter and son, and taught dance to hundreds of children. Despite the distance, Irene remained close with her parents. After her father died Irene brought her mother to NJ to care for her in her old age. Irene and John moved to PA in 1989 to be closer to their daughter and granddaughters.

After losing her husband to cancer in 1992, Irene was an active resident for 23 years at Gloria Dei Towers in Huntington Valley, PA where she proudly led the Towerettes line dancing troupe.

Irene is survived by her daughter, Ann Adalist-Estrin (Clyde De Mary); her four grandchildren: Whitney Estrin ( Robert Voris), Yonaton Adalist (Moran Deutsch-Adalist)Daniel Adalist ( Shir) and Aubrey Estrin ( Rickey Valentine); and her four great-grandchildren: Marleigh, Kennedy, Ayala, and Uriah. She was predeceased by her husband John Adalist, and her son Jack Adalist.
