Obituary

PEOPLES

Michael, of Elkins Park, on September 9, 2019 at the age of 69. Mike is survived by his loving wife Kathy (nee Rocks) of 47 years. He was also the devoted father to Brian M. Peoples and Jill Peoples. Mike will also be greatly missed by his canine friends, Rubi and Banjo. Mike is also survived by his sister, Faith Dillon (Mike) of Lake Frederick, VA, brother Jim of Elkins Park, PA, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Mike was born in Philadelphia in 1950 and grew up in the Olney section of the city. He was a proud graduate of Cardinal Dougherty '68, and went on to graduate from Temple University in '72, and later received his Masters in Vocational Education from Temple. He attended the Woodstock music festival in 1969 with a large and diverse group of friends.

Mike taught vocational education and English, primarily at Northeast High School in Philadelphia. He was a mentor to many at the school and he enjoyed being the set designer for the school's musicals for a number of years, while also serving as the golf coach.

Mike enjoyed traveling with Kathy to many exotic locations, where they developed a passion for scuba diving. Both became master divers and were able to fulfill the lifetime goal of exploring Australia's Great Barrier Reef during the winter of 2018. Mike also enjoyed paddle boarding and sailing, and he was a very competitive golfer.

Mike loved good food and wine and was an excellent cook. He was also a passionate and long-suffering Philadelphia sports fan, and thoroughly enjoyed the Philadelphia Eagles' Super Bowl victory in 2018. He loved spending time at the family beach house in Delaware, where he let loose with family and friends and gazed at the planets and stars through his beloved telescope.

Mike will be remembered as someone who accomplished a great deal in life but always maintained a level demeanor. He was a wonderful man who never hesitated to help when his considerable talents were required. Mike had an easy way with children, family dogs, and adults and a positive energy that put people at ease. He also possessed an intensity and work ethic that enabled him to excel professionally before embracing his early retirement.

Relatives and friends are invited to Michael's Life Celebration Memorial Service on Tuesday September 17th at the Sandy Run Country Club (200 E Valley Green Rd, Oreland, PA 19075) from 11AM-1PM with a time for sharing and stories to follow at 1PM; per Mike's request, dress casually.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Michael's memory to the Project HOME, Development Dept., 1515 Fairmount Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19130 would be greatly appreciated.
