Obituary for Michael R. Swartwood

February 22, 2018

Michael R. Swartwood passed away peacefully on February 22, 2018 at age 67. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Michael was the son of Rosemary (Crowley) and Robert W. Swartwood. Michael lost his parents at the young age of 17 and was lovingly raised by his grandmother, Mildred Crowley. After proudly serving during the Vietnam War in the 25th Infantry Division of the U.S. Army, an Airborne Ranger, and earning a Purple Heart, Michael returned to East Norriton where he and his beloved wife of 44 years Susan (Gryga) Swartwood began their life.

A man of unbound energy, Mike was a proud business owner of M & W Painting, a member of the Philadelphia painters' union, mentor, and coach to his children and many friends, someone who could offer valued advice, or a sensitive ear for listening, and served as an active member of Holy Savior Parish as a Eucharistic Minister. In his free time Mike was able to find time for a multitude of passions including spending time in the outdoors, singing, running, cycling and competing as a black belt in Tai Kwon Do.

Mike's universe revolved around Susan, his children and grandchildren whom he loved dearly, he was the loving father of six; Christi Clarke (Damon), Michael Swartwood (Kelly), Patrick Swartwood (Shantell), Kelly Wagner (Marc), Kevin Swartwood, and Brian Swartwood, and was the cherished grandfather (Pop Pop) of Ryan and Evan Clarke and Madi and Matthew Swartwood. Survived by many nieces, nephews and friends, Mike will be missed by all.

Relatives and friends are invited to Michael's Life Celebration at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 W. Germantown Pike on Friday, March 2nd from 7:30-9:45 AM. Michael's Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 AM at Holy Saviour Church, 407 E. Main St., Norristown.
