Obituary

Minerva Ortiz, of Philadelphia, passed away on Wednesday evening, June 12, 2019 at her residence. She was 58 years old. "Minnie" as she was affectionately known by her family and friends was born October 6, 1960 in Philadelphia to her parents, Angelo Luis Ortiz Sr. and Juana (nee Zayas) Ortiz with whom she is survived by. She graduated in 1979 from John W. Hallahan High School. Prior to graduating, she began her career at the Internal Revenue Service as a summer aide and continued a long and distinguished career in which she held numerous positions ranging from manager, tax auditor and case advocate. Minnie retired from Internal Revenue Service after 39 years of service. After she retired, she volunteered for several income tax assistance and relief services such as VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program), CEIBA which is an organization that promotes economic development to the Latino community, and Campaign for Working Families. In her free time, Minerva enjoyed traveling, going to the beach with her family and friends, salsa dancing and watching shows such as Blue Bloods, General Hospital, and Rachael Ray.

In addition to her parents, Minerva is survived by her daughter, Alexis Ortiz-Wilcox as well as her son, Matthew M. Johnson, Sr. She is also survived by her grandson, Matthew M. Johnson, Jr. and four siblings; Carmen Ortiz, Evelyn Ortiz, Zoraida Ortiz, and Alejandro Ortiz. She is predeceased by her granddaughter, Alecea Lourdes Ortiz and four siblings; Maria Theresa Ortiz-Torres, Angelo Luis Ortiz, Jr., Lourdes Ortiz, and Miriam Roman.

Relatives and friends are invited to Minerva's Life Celebration on Thursday, June 20, 2019 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Geitner-Givnish of Olney, 6230 N. 5th St. Philadelphia, PA 19120 and from 9:00-10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2019 at St. Helena's Church, 6161 N. 5th St. Philadelphia, PA 19120 followed by her funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will be private.
