Nancy S. Ritter (nee Sylvanus) passed away peacefully on February 23, 2018 at age 87. Born November 11, 1930 in Johannesburg, South Africa, Nancy was the daughter of Florence Mary (Turner) and Charles M. Sylvanus. She was the beloved wife of 52 years to Henry "Hansell" Ritter who passed away in 2012. Nancy and Hansell raised their family in Trooper and in 2008 moved to Normandy Farms Estates, Blue Bell, PA.

Nancy was the loving mother of Pamela R. Bennett (Geoff McConnell) of Glenmoore, PA and Steven Andrew Ritter of Pennsburg, PA and she was the cherished grandmother of Kristen Claire Bennett.

Nancy graduated Swarthmore High School in 1948 and received her BFA in Illustration in 1952 from the Philadelphia Museum College of Art (now "University of the Arts").

After 1971 she got involved with the Episcopal Church as the Bishops Convention Secretary and Secretary to the Diocesan Council serving a succession of bishops. She was also the President of the Diocesan Episcopal Church Women. Nancy continued volunteering at the thrift shop until taking a fall in 2016.

After 1968 she was involved with the Daughters of the British Empire (DBE) [her mother was English and her father was American} Nancy was a founding member of the Athelstan Chapter of the DBE in PA, and was State President (PA) of the DBE in 1978-9, 1990-3, 2002-3. She was also a life member of the Victoria Home in Ossining, NY, which is in part funded by the DBE in PA.

Nancy much preferred going outside with her watercolors to paint. She belonged to GNAL for many years, exhibited around the area, and has 5 original watercolor paintings on permanent loan at the Chester County Library in Exton. Nancy & Hansell enjoyed traveling, including cruises on the Amazon, Nile & Yangtze Rivers.

Her memorial service is being planned for 10am, Saturday March 10th at All Saints Episcopal Church, 535 Haws Ave., Norristown, PA 19401.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Nancy's memory can be made to All Saints Episcopal Church at the above address.
