Nickita P. "Nick" Krivorchuk, Jr. passed away peacefully after a long illness surrounded by his loving family on June 26, 2014, at age 77. Born May 21, 1937 in Philadelphia, he was the son of Elizabeth (Drache) and Nickita P. Krivorchuk, who passed away while Nick was very young. Having no other relatives, Nick was raised by a former teacher, Mimi, and her husband Sam Freas. He is survived by two siblings, Sam Freas and Margaret Allen. In addition, he is survived by 3 daughters, Elizabeth, Cheryl, and Deborah, as well as 2 grandchildren, Chelsea and Chase. Nick was the beloved partner of Mary Ellen Zajac for 28 wonderful years. In his early years, Nick was an accomplished athlete and his high school class president. In his later years, Nick enjoyed woodworking, dogs, relaxing at the shore, boating and fishing. Nick was a Lt. Colonel in US Army Air Force who served 3 tours in Vietnam. He was a military pilot flying fixed-winged and rotary aircraft. He continued to proudly serve our country until 1980 and received multiple awards and commendations to include three Purple Hearts. Nick had an undergraduate degree in Industrial Arts, as well as two advanced degrees.
Nick met Mary Ellen at Wordsworth Academy where they both worked with children who had learning disabilities. Nick taught industrial arts while Mary Ellen worked as a vocational evaluator.
Relatives and friends are invited to Nick's Life Celebration at Craft/Givnish of Abington, 1801 Old York Road on Monday, June 30, 2014 from 9:30 to 11 AM, followed by his Funeral Service at 11 AM. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.In lieu of flowers, donations in Nick's memory may be made to Abington Rosenfeld Cancer Center, 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19001.
