Obituary

Norma R. Wood of Lower Makefield Township, PA passed away on October 29, 2018 with her family at her side. She was 83. Born on October 9, 1935 in Trenton, NJ she was the daughter of the late Hilda Rich (Redman) and Harold Rich.

Norma graduated from Trenton High school in 1953 and earned a teaching degree from Trenton State College in 1957. She taught at Fisher Junior High School in Ewing, NJ for over 30 years. She also taught business subjects at the Mercer County Community College and at the Women in Need program in Trenton. She was known as a strict but kind and compassionate teacher. She loved her students and coworkers and was a big fan of Ewing basketball.

She was also active in the community and served as the Director of the Elm Lowne Historical Committee, and she volunteered with the Yardley Questers for historical preservation and the Women's Association of the Newtown Presbyterian Church.

Norma was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved spending time with her family and Yorkshire Terrier at the shore in Ocean City. She also enjoyed skiing, bike riding, reading, shopping and baking chocolate chip cookies.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 59 years, Barry A. Wood, sons Brian (Carolyn) and Bruce (Barbara) and grandchildren Matthew, Brendan, Jessica (Jeff), Stephen, and Lauren. She is also survived by her sister June Smith (Russell) of Barnegat, NJ, and the loving memory of her sister Elane Cooke (Phil) and cousins, nephew, and nieces. All of whom will miss her loving words of wisdom and love.

Norma's family will receive friends and relatives on Thursday, November 1st from 7 to 9pm at the Swartz Givnish Funeral Home, Newtown, PA. A memorial service will begin at 10am on Friday preceding burial at the Newtown Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations in Norma's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association at alz.org.
