Off
Peggy Marie (Hawkins) Off, 86, of Egg Harbor Township, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by loved ones on Monday June 18, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was raised in Hammonton, N.J. and then later moved to Ventnor as a teen with her younger brother, Jack, and graduated from Atlantic City High School in 1944 with honors. She was also first runner-up in the Miss Atlantic City contest the same year.
Peggy was introduced to Allen Off by a golf caddie at the Atlantic City Country Club where she worked after graduation and the pair later married. They then moved to Linwood and had three daughters.
Peggy was Linwood's first city councilwoman serving for 6 years. She was later employed a second time around at the Atlantic City Country Club as their bookkeeper. She was self-taught and passionate about the stock market and was a keen and savvy trader.
Peggy Off was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She had great inner strength as well as beauty. She was truly the happiest when she was in the presence of her dear family and friends. She traveled numerous times to California and Hawaii to visit two of her daughters who had resided there. She was also an avid and superb bridge player. She led a life well-lived and was loyal and honest to her core.
Peggy will be deeply missed, forever loved and always in our hearts. She is survived by her beloved daughters, Janice Off Ireland, Luanne Marie Off, Sally Off Fodor, her precious grandchildren, Sarah Marie and Jessica Rose Fodor, and Allen Kekoa Canner, her ever supportive son-in-laws, Luke Ireland, Gary Canner, and John Fodor, her cherished siblings, Jack (and Emma) Hawkins, Gerri Kline, and Paul Steeb, many wonderful nieces and nephews and her dear and long-time companion, James Daiker.
