Obituary

Philomena Slattery of Trooper, passed away peacefully on Thursday October 26, 2017. Born March 29, 1941 in Long Island, NY, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Dominica (nee Palmese) Longo, and the beloved wife of 57 years of Francis R. Slattery.

Mena, or "Miss Mena" as she was affectionately known by her preschoolers, was retired but had taught at Twin Acres Country Day School and The Malvern School. She absolutely loved children. In addition to spending time with her husband Frank, her favorite pastimes included reading, attending Shakespeare festivals, taking pictures, and her annual vacations in Ocean City, NJ. However, there was nothing Mena loved more than spending time with – and cooking for – family, friends, and neighbors. She was always looking for a reason to get everyone together and an occasion to celebrate. Whether she was making her signature antipasto, eggplant parmesan, or delicious pizzelles, there was always plenty of food (and wine!) and always room for one more at the table. And with a full table and full bellies there was always lots of laughter and love in her home. Her kind and generous spirit was a blessing to her many friends and she became a beloved second mother to the countless young people in her life. Her thoughtfulness was endless and everyone whose life was touched by Mena was blessed for having known her.

In addition to her husband Francis, Philomena is survived by her three children; Kathy Slattery, Tim Slattery (Karen) and Michael Slattery (Heidi), three grandchildren; Caroline, Tim, and Kayleigh, two sisters; Catherine Santora (Nick) and Marilyn Reese, as well as a beloved uncle, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to share in Philomena's Life Celebration on Thursday November 2 from 6 to 8 PM at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike 610-277-7000 and on Friday from 9 to 9:50 AM at Visitation BVM Church 196 N. Trooper Rd. Norristown, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 AM also at Visitation. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
