Rachel Ann Gernerd, of Gwynedd Valley, passed away peacefully on Saturday July 21, 2018 surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was 39 years old. Rachel was born on June 23, 1979 in Harrisburg to her loving parents Mark and Patricia (nee McHugh) Gernerd. She was the devoted sister of Meredith Burton (Drew) and Mark Gernerd, Jr. and the dear aunt of Emma and Mary Kate Burton.

Rachel attended elementary school at Gwynedd-Mercy Academy and high school at Mount St. Joseph Academy. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame, she worked in the venture capital field and as an event planner for the Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce. Later, Rachel found her true calling as a nurse. She received her RN at Gwynedd Mercy University and began her nursing career caring for the children in the Cardiac ICU at CHOP. Rachel earned her CRNA degree at the Frank J. Tornetta School of Anesthesia and worked as a nurse anesthetist for Main Line Health. In addition, she served as a teacher for the anesthesia students at the Montgomery School of Anesthesia.

Rachel helped organize events for the Notre Dame Club of Philadelphia and was a volunteer for the For Pete's Sake Cancer Respite Foundation. She enjoyed sharing her love of swimming as a coach for the Special Olympics. Both at home and in Avalon, she could often be found with family and friends playing tennis, practicing yoga, swimming, and running.

Rachel was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and friend whose selflessness, strength, and graciousness will forever impact the lives of everyone she knew. Her charismatic smile will forever live on in our hearts.

Relatives and friends are invited to share in Rachel's Life Celebration on Sunday July 29th from 5-8 PM at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike, 610-277-7000. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday July 30th at 10 AM at St. Rose of Lima Church 424 S. Main St. North Wales, PA.There will be no viewing on Monday morning, only a Funeral Mass at the church. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Conshohocken.
