Obituary

Callowhill
Ralph Tom Callowhill, III, 65, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife Carol on Sunday February 23, 2014 after a brief illness. Born in Philadelphia to Eleanor (Blackie) and Ralph Tom Callowhill, Jr. on September 1,1948, the family moved to Brigantine.
Tom was a 45 year member of Operating Engineers, Local 825, recently being honored for his recognition of faithful service which began in June, 1973. He began his career working for Kline Construction, and has been a longtime employee of Feriozzi Concrete Company, working for the family for 35 years.
Tom was also owner and publisher of "The Island Journal" of Brigantine, a weekly newspaper.
Tom married the love of his life Carol on April 3, 1970 and together spent 44 wonderful years together, raising three children, Ralph Tom IV, Cher Schreiber (Arthur), and Lonnie McCarron (Patrick).
He loved his family and devoted his life to them through all he did. But it was his amazing sense of humor that made "life with Tom" fun. According to Tom, "everything and everyone was game!" and he was a funny guy!
Affectionately know as "Pop-Pop", Tom embraced that role and enjoyed everyday he spent with his nine grandchildren, Taylor Mason, AJ, Ava and Chase Schreiber, Patrick, Ethan and Duke McCarron and Tommy and Cole Callowhill. He especially loved spending time with them on his sunporch and in his workshop, nurturing and teaching them all he knew. He was the best "Pop-Pop" in the world!
Tom was also an avid fisherman which lead him to the Florida Keys where he spent the past 14 winters in his home on the water in Summerland Cove near Key West. It was the laid-back lifestyle of the islands of Brigantine and Key West that brought him contentment and happiness.
Predeceased by his parents, Tom is also survived by his sisters, Lynne Rose and Carole Gellack, sister-in-law Linda Falcon and husband Dr. Joseph Falcon as well as many heart-broken nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at the Brigantine Presbyterian Church, 15th Street South and Brigantine Avenue, Brigantine, New Jersey from 9-11am with services to follow.
The family would also like to thank the AtlanticCare family in the City and Mainland campuses. Our area is blessed to have such a professional, dedication and caring staff.
