Obituary for Rhoda W. Brown

June 27, 2017
Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania

Rhoda W. Brown, Born in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Rhoda W. Brown led a life of joyful grace that spanned almost nine decades of service to her Lord Jesus Christ, in whom she trusted for salvation as a child. The Bible lit her path through life and inspired her to trust God wholeheartedly all her days. On June 27, 2017, Rhoda left behind her failing body to take on a heavenly one. "I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us." (Romans 8:18)
Rhoda was the beloved wife of the late Douglas W. Brown, and was known for her creative nature, making crafts, and writing poetry, as well as caring deeply for others. A graduate of Pleasantville (NJ) High School, Rhoda worked in the accounting department of IRC, a Philadelphia corporation, for a dozen years, then shouldered the responsibilities of full-time homemaker and mother.
She enjoyed teaching Sunday school for over a decade at Huntingdon Valley United Methodist Church, and she served as a volunteer in the Abington Memorial Hospital OB/GYN clinic. Rhoda loved to arrange flowers and to deliver "sunshine baskets" to church members in need. She was a long-time resident of Huntingdon Valley, PA, enjoyed many summers in Avalon, NJ, and then lived in Bucks County for almost 30 years, most recently at Southampton Estates where she enjoyed some special friendships. She and her late husband were charter members of Anchor Presbyterian Church of Wrightstown, and were blessed by rich fellowship there.
Rhoda is survived by her son and his wife, Keith and Barbara Brown, of Newtown, PA, as well as two dear grandchildren: Heather Joy Brown and David Keith Brown, and she was thrilled to know of David's recent marriage to Kirsten (Nitz) Brown.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Rhoda Brown's Life Celebration on Saturday, July 15, 2017, at 10:30 AM in the Auditorium of Southampton Estates, 238 Street Rd., Southampton, PA 18966. Her interment will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Anchor Presbyterian Church, 980 Durham Road, Wrightstown, PA 18940. "For I am sure that neither death nor life,…nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 8:38-39)
