Obituary

Richard P. Escher, known to family and friends as Dick, passed away on Tuesday afternoon, August 23, 2016 at his home in New Hope. He was 74.

He was the second of three children born to the late G.E. Escher, Jr. and Constance House Escher of Westport, CT.

A master craftsman, he owned and operated Craftsmen Pine in Bordentown, NJ for 20 years, supplying retail outlets in the tri-state area with high-quality, handmade early American style furniture. He continued making furniture and other objects, both of art and practical use, in his retirement. His eye for color and design was superbly original, and his expert knowledge of everything associated with the practical arts amazed and delighted everyone who knew him.

He was one of the world's most big-hearted and generous people, never failing to give all he had in order to help those around him. He was a steadfast presence in your darkest hour, and a joyful one in your happiest.

He also heartily and with sophisticated gusto enjoyed good food, travel, and all of the finer things in life. One of his favorite pastimes in his later years was rappelling in the Alps, and he was fearless.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Wendy; his children, Richard P. Escher, Jr. and his husband Reid, Christa K. Escher and her husband William, Wendy Hemphill and her husband Harlton, and Sharon James; his grandsons, Brennan, Corban and Walker; his sister, Lianne S. Escher; and by his brother, G.E. Escher III and his wife Connie.

Family and friends are invited to Dick's Life Celebration, Wed Aug 31st, from 12-1:30pm at Leaver/Cable of Buckingham, 4886 York Rd., and to participate in his Memorial Service at 1:30pm. Interment will be private. To share your fondest memories of Dick, please visit www.lifecelebration.com.
