Obituary

Rita G. Martin (nee Griffin), of Cheltenham, passed away on May 25, 2018 at the age of 93. Rita is predeceased by her husband Robert and brother Kevin. She is survived by her children Robin Henderson (Doug), Christine King, John Martin (Sara); her brother Jim; her grandchildren Teelin (Lisa), Claire, Paige, Hunter (Kim), Maris, Alexis, Andrew, Connor, and Bailey; and great grandchildren Oliver and Penelope.

Rita was born on November 19, 1924 in Philadelphia, Pa to the late James and Nell Griffin. Rita met her husband, Bob, in Wildwood, NJ. They were married on August 25, 1951. While raising three children, Rita established a career as a free-lance writer.

After receiving her undergraduate degree in English Literature from Gwynedd Mercy College, she began a long career at Lincoln Investment. While there, she put her writing talent to use in many areas.

Rita and her brother Jim were taught at home to embrace and value personal independence and courage. From an early age Rita loved the written word, conversing with friends, live theater, the summer breeze , and a good game of Scrabble.

She spent her life encouraging all who knew her to identify their unique gifts and to share them generously.

Relatives and friends are invited to share in Rita's Life Celebration on Wednesday, May 30th starting at 6PM at Craft/Givnish of Abington. 1801 Old York Road Abington, PA 19001 and on Thursday, May 31st starting at 9AM followed by her Funeral Mass at 10AM at St. James R.C. Church 8320 Brookside Rd, Elkins Park, PA. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Flowers are welcomed or memorial contributions to Saint Labre Indian School in Montana in Rita's memory would be greatly appreciated.
