Obituary

Rita M. Burns (nee Myers) 94, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, in the comfort of her home in Jeffersonville, PA. Rita was born in Germantown on September 6, 1925, to Raymond and Anna (nee Walsh) Myers.

Rita was the beloved wife of the late Leo T. Burns, Sr. for 57 years until his passing in 2006. Rita was predeceased by her much loved sister and brother, Marjorie McCloy and William Myers.

Rita graduated from Little Flower High School in 1943, and worked as a bookkeeper. On May 22, 1948, she married Leo at St. Francis of Assisi Church on Greene St. in Germantown. Rita cherished her chosen roles of loving wife, mother of six, grandmother of seven, and great grandmother of two.

Rita was a quiet and benevolent soul, who was guided by her strong Catholic faith. She volunteered in the Guidance Office of Bishop Kenrick High School for four years, and then for 25 years in the Chaplaincy Department of Norristown State Hospital. In addition, Rita was a member of a long-standing Bridge Club and a travel group. Rita and Leo also loved gathering their brood in Ocean City, NJ, for yearly summer vacations.

Rita is survived by six children: Maureen Brodsky (Phillip), Kathleen Gerrity (John), Leo Burns (Lucy), Colleen Burns-Feldermann, Eileen Suhy (Chris), and Michael Burns. She was the adored grandmother of Rachel, Michael (Lee), Leigh, Allison (Jay), Mary Kate (Max), Matthew, and Ava. Sweet great grandmother to Mia and Sophia. Rita also leaves behind her dear sister-in-law, Eleanor Myers, devoted Goddaughters, Mary Anne Burns Duffy and Beth McCloy Wentzel, and her loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family wishes to thank Runica Sirkisoon, Rita's Eucharistic Minister, and the staff at Seasons' Hospice for their comforting care.

Thank you for all who have enhanced the lives of Rita and all of us. We are grateful for your love, support, and prayers.

Given the current pandemic, a private Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Rita at St. Francis of Assisi Church and her interment will be held privately at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Family services are by Boyd-Horrox-Givnish of East Norrtion, 610-277-7000.
