Obituary

GRIESBACH
Rudolph J., Jr. of Cheltenham, passed away peacefully at home on April 6th, 2020 at the age of 89. Rudy was the loving father of John R. Quinn (Kate) and William R. Griesbach (Catherine Gore, and former wife and mother of grandchildren, Teresa Griesbach). He leaves behind an impressive legacy in his three grandchildren; Sarah Kettles, Douglas Griesbach, and Zachary Griesbach, as well as great grandchildren Oliver Kettles, Georgia Kettles, and Noah Griesbach. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph J. Griesbach, Sr. and Lena S. Griesbach, his sister Claire V. Gartner, and his former wife Grace S. Griesbach with whom he remained close until her death in 2009.

Born in Philadelphia, Rudy and his family moved to Cheltenham when he was five years old to the home where he spent most of his life. He graduated from Cheltenham High School and went to work for Girard Bank in Philadelphia, where he met his wife, Grace. He served in the Army Signal Corps in Germany during the Korean Conflict, then went on to complete a degree in electrical engineering at Drexel Institute (now University). He had a 30-year career as the plant supervisor at Monarch Manufacturing Works in Port Richmond.

In this era of specialization, Rudy was what one could call a " Renaissance Man." He could hold an intelligent conversation on most any subject. His interests were boundless, as were his talents, which included music, cooking and anything involving tools. He was a devoted follower of John's singing career and Bill's marathoning pursuits. He was a lifelong follower of the Phillies and Eagles and was thrilled to see his "Birds" win the Superbowl in 2018. In later years, Rudy became a great collector of books; history, literature, music, art, cooking, travel – his interests took him everywhere. He will be missed by all for his friendly and cheerful nature and his sense of humor.

Relatives and friends are invited to reach out to the Griesbach and Quinn families during this time of need to offer words of comfort, and to share a story about Rudy. A Life Celebration Memorials Services and U.S. Army Honors will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Rudolph's memory to Caring for Friends (https://caringforfriends.org) would be greatly appreciated.
