Obituary

A beautiful heart stopped beating on January 14, 2020. Sandra Lou Donofrio "Sandy" was welcomed into heaven surrounded by her loving family. At 81 years old, Sandy spread love every day of her life.

Born on April 3, 1938 in Danville, PA, Sandy was the dear daughter of the late Peter and Rose Buriak (nee Zyry). She was the devoted wife to the late Louis V. Donofrio, cherished mother to Louis V. Donofrio, Jr. (Mary Anne), Annmarie Porta (John), Susan Decker, Lisa Donofrio, and Karen D'Orazio (Frank), doting grandmother (MomMom) to Sarah, Louis V III, Matthew, Kaitlyn, Allison, Rachel, Alex, Jack, Anthony, Samantha, and Charlie, dear sister to the late Vera( Jim Devine), the late Diane (McLaughlin), Roger Buriak (Kay), David Buriak (Jim Chandler), and Luann (Jeffrey Duxbury), aunt to many nieces and nephews, and beloved friend to many.

Sandy was a determined and strong force in her family. She took on the challenge of furthering her education at Philadelphia General Hospital to become a Registered Nurse. While raising 5 children, she dedicated 25 years serving patients at Sacred Heart Hospital in Norristown, several years at Montgomery Hospital, Meadowood Senior Care, and Towne Manor East. Sandy was a caretaker and nurturer by her profession, but she truly loved and cared for others in her everyday life. There were countless times Sandy displayed small and large acts of kindness and generosity to her family and complete strangers alike. Even in her later years when her sense of speech was lost, Sandy could light up a room with her eyes and signature smile. So much of her warm generous spirit and unwavering loyalty left an everlasting impression on the hearts of those she touched. Sandy enjoyed the simple things in life like flowers, gardening and feeding the ducks and birds, but her greatest joy was her family.

Relatives and friends are invited to Sandy's Life Celebration on Sunday, January 19th from 6 pm to 8 pm at Boyd-Horrox-Givnish Life Celebration Home of East Norriton, 200 West Germantown Pike and again on Monday January 20th from 9 am to 9:50 am at Visitation BVM Parish of Norristown, 196 North Trooper Road followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 am. Interment to follow at St. Augustine Cemetery of King of Prussia.

Sandy loved flowers! Bring them to a community center that entertains the elderly. Bring them to a local nursing home, or foster a grandparent. Many of the elderly are lonely and receive no visitors. Sandy would want for you to pay it forward. Pay the toll behind you, buy the coffee for the person about to order, hold the door, give someone your place in line. Send a family with a lot of small children an appetizer or drink when you are out to dinner, as Sandy's family shared others had done for her. Scatter kindness and never underestimate the power of your smile!
