Obituary

Shelia Marcia Eskin, August 24, 2019, of Jenkintown, PA, wife of the late G. Robert Eskin, mother of Jeff Brown (Denise), Ami Brown, and Eileen Brill (Eli), sister of the late Robert Gordon and the late Marilyn Steinberg, grandmother of Rachel Brown, Jared Brill and Aaron Brill.

Shelia was raised in Philadelphia and graduated from Gratz High School. She received her bachelors degree in social work from Temple University and her masters degree from Antioch University. For most of her professional life, Shelia was a geriatric social worker with Jewish Family and Childrens Services.

As a young mother, she protested in Washington, D.C., against the Viet Nam war; later in life, Shelia testified in front of Philadelphia City Council in support of services for the elderly, led
bereavement groups for widows and widowers, volunteered for hospice, and taught driver safety to senior citizens. She was on the Board of Directors with InterCommunity Action and Journey's Way. She was an avid reader and an artist who painted in oils and watercolors; she enjoyed long walks, crossword puzzles, the theatre, and a good game of Scrabble; she loved children and animals; and most of all, she was dedicated to her children and grandchildren, who were the focal point of her life.

She will be remembered for her ever-present smile, sweet and sensitive personality, and commitment to social justice and human rights.

Contributions in her memory can be made to Jewish Family and Children's Services of Greater Philadelphia (Services for Older Adults), Attn: Development Department, 2100 Arch Street, 5th Floor, Philadelphia, PA 19103 or The Center at Journey's Way, 403 Rector Street, Philadelphia, PA 19128.
