Obituary for Stephen Slampyak

January 20, 1931 - July 21, 2021
Warminster, Pennsylvania | Age 90

Stephen Slampyak, born January 20, 1931, lived the most out of life until dying on July 21, 2021 overnight, peacefully, in his sleep. Born in Brainards, NJ, he attended Belvedere High School there – and could still proudly sing its school song. After, he completed a BS in Electrical Engineering from Lafayette University.

He was drafted into the United States Naval Corps in 1955 and served in China Lake, CA until 1957, when he was honorably discharged. He said he loved his assignment because he could play golf every day.

Finally, he earned his MS in Electrical Engineering at LaSalle University, then joined Philco and remained with it after its merger with Ford. He eventually started his own successful consultancy.

Stephen enjoyed various activities. Every day, he would do all puzzles in the newspaper – and get frustrated when his daughter, Diana, would figure out an answer before him (well-nigh impossible!). He also loved attending events with the TLA Warminster Group, where he had more than 30 wonderful friends and with whom he bowled, went to house parties and dinners, played cards and games and talked and talked. He also had a trusted group of pals at the Spring Mill Athletic Club, with whom he'd share a cup or two of coffee after each workout or meet for breakfast. He loved to take jaunts around the neighborhood, playing amateur police officer and yelling at speeders to slow down. Finally, he loved nights in front of the TV with Diana and Totoro, Diana's Ocicat. As Totoro's Grandpaw, they shared a loving relationship. Totoro still won't sit where Stephen sat on the sofa or go on his Grandpaw's bed, so grieving.

In 1960, Stephen wed the "most beautiful, loving and graceful" woman he could ever hope to meet, Elizabeth Anne Doidge. They stayed happily in love until her death November 11, 2012. Their love is eternal.

Stephen was a wonderful father. He encouraged all his children, Stephen Michael, Theodore John and Diana Elizabeth, to participate in sports and managed a team or two each season. He sacrificed a higher-level career in Electrical Engineering because he preferred an even or more family-oriented work/life balance.

He had two other passions: golfing and portraiture/wedding photography. He exceled at the first, shooting mostly birdies and pars with the occasional hole-in-one, almost always winning against his large circle of golfing buddies. He won countless tournaments around the area as well. He played almost every day, walking with a cart, never riding on one (he was extremely proud of this!), until his knee started hurting him too much in his early 80s. As for his photography, he enamored many a bride and groom and lovely family as he shot their weddings or portraits, always bringing an artsy air to what would have otherwise been ho-hum traditional shots. He had an excellent reputation.

One final thing he enjoyed: jokes on PopSicle sticks. He collected every one until he had a full set, and Diana and he would take turns telling them to each other. His favorite: What do you get when you cross a police officer with a skunk? Law and odor, of course!

Stephen Slampyak is survived by his two sons and their families, Stephen Michael Slampyak and his wife, Ianina, and Theodore John Slampyak Kinyak and his wife Jennifer, plus their two children, Coco Rae and Elliott. His daughter, who treasures the last four years she spent taking care of her father and becoming extremely close with him, Diana Elizabeth Slampyak, also survives with Totoro.

Stephen had four wonderful siblings, all deceased; they were George Slampyak, Peter Slampyak, Mary Slampyak Cisak and John Slampyak.
