Werner C. Schroeder formerly of Doylestown, PA and Caledonia, MN, passed away peacefully on March 28, 2014 at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, Maryland, he was 86 years old.

Born on January 31, 1928 in Caledonia, Minnesota, he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Nina (Onstad) Schroeder. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Jeannette Free, and his sister, Anita D. (Schroeder) Lind.

Survivors include his daughter Alison Bennish and husband John of Salisbury, Maryland, four grandchildren, Nicolette, Vanessa, Brooke and Dylan Bennish, and five nieces and nephews.

Werner studied pre-law at Valparaiso University in Indiana, but was called home to work for his father's car dealership in Caledonia, Minnesota when his father became ill. He was drafted into the Army from November 1950 to August 1952 and is a veteran of the Korean War. Upon his return, he moved to the East coast to pursue a business career, residing in Pennsylvania where he met his wife and raised his daughter. He spent his career as the Eastern Regional District Sales Manager with O. Ames Company of Parkersburg, West Virginia. After his wife passed away, he moved to Salisbury, Maryland to be near his daughter and grandchildren. He spent the last few years of his life as a resident of Gull Creek Assisted Living in Berlin, Maryland.

Werner was an avid chess and bridge player, reader, golfer, gardener, and horse race enthusiast. As a young man in Minnesota, he was an athlete participating in many sports. He enjoyed travel and the opera with his wife for many years. He was a lifetime member of the United States Chess Federation (USCF).

Family and friends are invited to Werner's Life Celebration at 11am followed by his Funeral Service at 12 noon on Thursday, April 3, 2014, at Leaver-Cable of Buckingham, 4886 York Road, Pennsylvania.
