Obituary

William P. Garwood Jr. died on Sunday, July 18, 2021, at Abington Hospital, in Abington, PA.

William was born in Elizabeth, NJ on February 4, 1932. He was the son of the late William P Garwood Sr. & Elizabeth A. (Hetzel) Garwood. His family moved to the Philadelphia area when he was young. His family were members of the Trinity Lutheran Church on Holme Avenue, where he meet & married Carol A Wirsu in October 1962. They moved to the Huntingdon Valley area in 1964 and lived there 58 years together.

After graduating from High School, he attended the Admiral Farragut Academy, Class of 1949. He was in Navy Reserves where he launched communication satellites from submarines. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Drexel University Class of 1960. He retired from NADC in Warminster in 1984.

William & Carol were members of the Red Dragon Canoe Club and the DelawareRiver Yachtsmen's League where they had many long-time relationships with wonderful people. That is where he found a distant cousin Don Wood from the Garwood side of his family. They loved going to family reunions in New Jersey and meeting all his extended family. William & Carol owned a sailboat and loved sailing down the Delaware River.

They were members of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Southampton, PA where William was on several committees.

He was a hard-working father to Jeffrey W. (Theresa) Garwood of Southampton & the late Diana C. Garwood of Huntingdon Valley, a loving grandfather to Nicole S. Garwood. He's survived by his sister in-law Mary Pizzola-Byrne (Patrick) and nephews Nicholas Pizzola, Matthew (Heather) Pizzola & Joseph (Jenna) Pizzola & great nieces Paige and Leah Pizzola.

He is predeceased by his grandparents Harry & Adeline (Pendleton) Garwood and Henry & Elizabeth (Severtzes) Hetzel, parents William & Elizabeth (Hetzel) Garwood Sr, wife Carol A. (Wirsu) Garwood, daughter Diana C. Garwood & sister in-law Ruthie (Wirsu) Friel.

A graveside service will be on August 7th at 11:00 am at Rosedale Memorial Park, Section G1. Contact us for the exact location.
